the decemberists: we both go down together
they’re in my top five for favorite live bands, they do not disappoint.
dead man’s bones was founded by ryan gosling and zach shields. their album “dead man’s bones” was released in 2009 and its lyrics are based on love stories between monsters and ghosts. interesting and crazy awesome.
fun fact: ryan gosling performs under the alias of “baby goose”
ryan gosling also has a song on the blue valentine soundtrack called “you always hurt the ones you love”. the entire soundtrack is fantastic so i suggest you don’t stop there.
apparently “best new artist” entails 3 album releases over a three year span. it would’ve been nice for him to win best new artist in 2008, when he was a new artist, either way it was well deserved.
